Opposition People’s Party Vice President Kamlepo Kalua has given Malawi President Peter Mutharika 24 hours to step down.

In a Facebook post, the vocal politician has told Mutharika that he has 24 hours to make him the attorney general or the ACB director so he can name cabinet ministers involved in corruption. The other option for Mutharika is to step down.

Kalua has been alleging that seven ministers in Mutharika’s cabinet have been implicated in a report on Cashgate activities that spanned the reigns of Bingu wa Mutharika and Joyce Banda.

Kalua alleged that he knows the ministers and Mutharika was shielding them.

However Mutharika dared Kalua to name the ministers or shut up.

In return, he (Kalua) has said that he can only name those ministers if he is the attorney general or director of ACB. He has therefore urged Mutharika to appoint him to those positions or step down.

“The files containing these names are with ACB, Auditor General and Mutharika wants me to name? Fact remains that Billions were stolen by people some of whom are ministers today! Therefore I also give u 24hrs, make me Attorney General, make me head of ACB and I will name with the immunity that comes with these positions, if you don’t, you should resign Sir!” he posted.

More than half a trillion of public funds disappeared through cashgate.

The main issue here is not the President to resign…it is for him to take full responsibility of the current state of the affairs in his govt..including the crooked ministers he has been shielding. The president has failed us many times and in many ways. If he cant come out in the open with the names of the crooked officials then that will be his admission of guilty…and he must step down….and the current vice president will take us forward to 2019 when the masses will decide through a ballot box.
