Blue Eagles have pleaded with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to ban Surestream Stadium in Blantyre from hosting big games.

Surestream stadium said to be unfit to host big games

Team manager for Blue Eagles Gabriel Chirwa made the remarks on Wednesday after the Lilongwe side suffered a 2-1 loss to Wizards football club.

Chirwa said the state of the ground is not fully fit to hold big games, singling out the parameter wire fence which he said is damaged and needs renovation.

He further said that spectators were hiding balls when they went out into touch, a development which affected the tempo of the game as there were numerous delays.

“Let me plead with FAM next time when they plan for other games they need to select good grounds, and if they cannot then Blue Eagles will not accept to play at Surestream Stadium again,” said Chirwa.

During the match, Wizards’ Hendrix Misinde scored either side of half time after Blue Eagle’s opener to boot the Lilongwe side out of the 2016 Carlsberg Cup.
