Malawi super league rookies, Dedza Young Soccer have moved a step closer to their dream of surviving the chop in the league after beating Civo United 1-0 at Dedza Stadium on Sunday.

Amadu Makawa scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute to move Dedza Young Soccer out of the relegation zone.

It was Civo however who had the first chance of the match when they had a shot cleared away by Dedza Young Soccer captain Chisomo Mpachika .

It turned out to be the only good chance for some minutes untill Dedza Young Soccer were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute after a Civo United defender handled the ball in the box.

After that goal, Dedza Young Soccer kept on pressurising Civo United but Civo defence was too good to be demolished by the Millius Pofera Jegwe boys.

In the 40th minute, Civo United started to build momentum but Dedza Young Soccer defenders defended well and did not allow Civo United to score. On the 43rd minute, Jegwe’s boys could have doubled their lead through Ferguson Mtondo but his shot hit the woodwork.

It turned out to be the last chance of the first half. In the second half, both Civo United and Dedza Young Soccer played with intensity as they were looking for goals.

As the game was going to the end, Civo United could have found the equaliser but Matius Nyirenda’s powerful shot hit the woodwork after being deflected by Civo’s Emmanuel Zoya.

Shortly after, Dedza Young Soccer’s Patience Kamulomo hit a powerful shot but it went agonizingly wide.

After the game Dedza Young Soccer coach thanked his boys for a job well done and also assured all Dedza followers that the team will survive the chop in Malawi’s elite league.
