Flames start against Sudan on Monday.

Mtawali was speaking at Kamuzu International airport before the Flames departed for Ethiopia. The Flames mentor also said that the matches at the Cecafa will also be used in building up his team.

“Of course, we will use the tournament to prepare for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations as well as continue with the rebuilding drive,” said Mtawali.

However, the Flames coach was quick to point out that the team will also fight for honours at the Cecafa senior challenge tournament.

“We will not only use the matches for our preparations for the Afcon games but we will also fight for honours at the tournament,” he said.

The Malawi national team is paired in a group comprising Sudan, South Sudan and Djibouti. The Flames first game at the tournament will be against Sudan on Monday and kick off time will be 1:30 PM.

  1. Its a good move to take part in CECAFA tournament irrespective of the results than staying idle. Though we’re still dancing the tune of ”building the team” lt is high time for the government through the minstry of trade and industry to establish an ”act” so that all foreign owned businesses should invest more to the national team as is the case in other countries. Surely our team can make us proud. Refrence is the Queens which is only sponsered by one company…..but it does wonders in the world of Netball.

  2. During afcon they will say “we r preparing WC” these coaches i suggest only signed contracts without being given targets. Ernest & ramad r setting their own targets. Can an employee tell the employer what the company wants to achieve?

  3. Welcome Malawi Flames.

I remember the good old days when Malawi beat teams in CECAFA.

Now they are constantly rebuilding. 😆

You have the easiest group so no excuses for not making it to the quarter finals.
