Malawi Police in Blantyre city have arrested four people for their involvement in a series of robberies around the commercial city.
The four, Limbani Sambo Chafela 25,Ernest Nyongolo 30,Eric Namanya 40, Frank Sinoya,31 are all in the cooler now.
According to police the four suspects have been arrested for stealing items from passengers around Wenela Bus depot in the city.
In an interview with Malawi24 Blantyre Police Assistant Public Relation Officer Andrew Mayawo said the suspects were arrested following cases of theft at the depot.
“A lot of people have been reporting to us that they have been robbed off their bags,laptops at the depot,so we tried to have a tight security at the depot together with CID officers, with the development we arrested Chafela who was caught stealing a laptop from a passenger”
“During our investigations we found that some of the stolen items were found with Nyongolo,Namanja and Sinoya” said Mayawo.
The suspects are yet to appeal in court to answer charges of theft contrary to section 278 of the penal code.
Chafela, hails from Chidela Village, Tradition Authority(TA) Kalumo in Ntchisi district.
Namanja hails from Chilamwela village, TA Chilamwela in Thyolo district while Nyongolo is from Nazombe Village ,TA Kapeni in Blantyre city and Sinoya comes from Machinga district TA kowola.
